Changes to the JAN Board of Directors: Retirements & New Appointments

The Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Niyi Yusuf, Country Managing Director of Accenture Nigeria as its new Chairman.

Prior to his appointment as Country Managing Director, Mr. Yusuf served as  the senior executive responsible for the Systems Integration and Technology Group of Accenture Nigeria; and the programme manager responsible for the establishment of Interswitch, ATM Consortium and CRC Credit Bureau where he played a key role in the creation of the critical infrastructure within the Nigerian banking industry. He is a Director at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), and Enablis, Ghana whilst he also holds positions on the Board of numerous empowerment based organisations such as The Corona Trust Council.  Mr. Yusuf also volunteers for FATE Foundation and mentors at The United Kids Foundation.

As a member of JAN’s Board, Mr. Yusuf pioneered the deployment of online access to JAN’s Technology Delivery Platform; supported the development of the 2012-2015 JAN Corporate Strategy created by Accenture; and was awarded Most Involved Board Member during JAN’s 15th Anniversary celebration. He is the outgoing Chair of JAN’s Governance Committee, as well as the Vice Chairman and will be replacing Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola, who is voluntarily retiring after eight years as JAN’s chairman. Mr. Jaiyeola, who is the present CEO of NESG, has indeed nurtured JAN to great heights since his appointment in 2007.

In his new role as Chairman, Mr Yusuf aims to increase JAN’s national reach by including at-risk youths who are out of school and extend to them JAN’s free programmes based on Junior Achievement Worldwide’s (JAWW) 3 pillars of success: Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Work Readiness. He also strives to strengthen existing partnerships and foster new relationships with stakeholders who share JAN’s vision, while upholding JAN’s exemplary record of corporate governance and compliance to relevant regulatory codes. Mr. Yusuf’s ultimate objectives are to position JAN as the leader in non-profit education; leave a positive impact on the lives of young Nigerians, ages 5-27; and nurture a competitive and competent workforce that can compete globally.  Mr. Yusuf is positioned to take JAN to new heights through exemplary leadership.

Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney, JAN Ambassador and Chair of JAN’s Marketing & Communications Committee is the Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, First Bank of Nigeria Limited. She will be replacing Mr. Yusuf as Vice-Chairman of the Board.  FAM as she is fondly called, is active on a number of boards and contributes to the delivery of Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) through her alliances with many organisations in an advisory capacity. She is a big advocate of JAN’s E-Learning platform and the empowerment of young girls and women.

Following the retirement of Mrs. Kunbi Wuraola as the Executive Director of JAN, a new Executive Director, Mrs. Efua Edeh, was appointed. Mrs. Efua Edeh launched her career in 2004 as an Outreach Director and Healthcare Organizer in Chicago, Illinois USA. Over the course of her career, Efua managed over 400 volunteers; organised over 200 outreach events and secured over $1 million in grants. So far Mrs. Edeh has fostered new stakeholder relationships with partners such as FirstBank and Intel, through the SheWillConnect initiative to empower 5 million women and girls in Sub-Sahara Africa. Mrs. Edeh has also improved JAN’s brand image and reached over 100,000 students in 2015.
