LEAD Camp : Leadership, Empowerment Achievement & Development Camp for Girls

Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN), in partnership with Union Bank are teaming up to empower the lives of fifty (50) girls from various regions of Nigeria for the sixth (6) installment of LEAD Camp taking place July 17 th  -23 rd  in Lagos. The mission of LEAD Camp is to nurture young girls to become high-achieving women leaders while addressing Social Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. In order to achieve this mission, the participants are taken through series of activities, which include leadership workshops administered by HOD Consulting, a global leadership development company serving fortune 500 companies globally. To be eligible beneficiaries must have previously participated in JAN’s flagship Company Program; recommended by the teachers and volunteers who run the program and maintained a leadership role in the Company. The Abraaj Group facilitates Entrepreneurship skills in Nigerian Youth

JA Nigeria in partnership with The Abraaj Group sponsored Six (6) Schools in Abuja and Lagos. These schools participated in the Abraaj 2 nd Cycle Company Program These are the products made by students in both regions. Abuja:   Living Spring International College: (113 students)-Student Note Pads, Ankara Knapsack Flora Home School: (40 students)-Germicide, snacks and liquid soap. Nurul Bayan: (19 students)-Petroleum Jelly for the skin. Lagos: Kuramo College: (50 Students)- Phone cases made from local fabric Ggagada Senioe Grammar School: (60 Students) Iluminatinating Wall Clock & hot comb for hair dressing  Government College, Eric Moore (40 Students): Note pads for writing  In Abuja, a Job shadow program was also facilitated as part of a component of Abraaj Company Program.   Junior Achievement Company Program impacts more than 380,000 young people a year globally. The program teaches senior secondary level students how to start and run their own business; develop a product/service, and market it with the support of a volunteer trained by JAN. Volunteers are crucial to the success of this program as they serve as business advisors to students. The 2015 Edition of Company Program was sponsored by The Abraaj Group and Citi Foundation. Students are selected to form a company, chose a business name and elect a board to oversee the company for the program duration. The offices include: The Chairman of the Board (President//CEO), Director of Production, Marketing, Finance and Human resources. They create a company; raise capital by sales of shares; decide on what to produce; the market to sell their products; pay dividends to investors and use about 10 percent (10%) of their profit for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity of their choice. ...

JAN Company of the Year competition takes place annually and is open to public and private secondary schools. Company Program teaches students in SS1 & 2 how to set up and run a start-up company ad it truly puts the three (3) pillars of Junior Achievement (workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy) into action Programs- . The activities includes selling shares, conducting elections for key officers who will handle the affairs of the company ranging from marketing, production, HR, Finances and the positions of CEO & CFO. Upon liquidation of the start-up, proceeds from sales of products or rendering services are channeled towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and dividends for shareholders.
