2016 National Company of the Year Competition (#NCOY2016)

 Junior Achievement Nigeria’s (JAN) annual flagship event The National Company of the Year Competition (NCOY) will be taking place Thursday 6 th   October, 2016  in Lagos.   JAN’s National Company of the Year Competition is an annual event that brings the JA Company Program winners of Regional Competitions across Nigeria together to compete for the National Company of the Year Award. JA Company Program teaches Senior Secondary students how to start and run their own business from inception to liquidation with the guidance of a volunteer.   They sell shares, raise start-up capital, pay dividends to shareholders and use 10% of their profit for a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity of their choice.   The 2016 NCOY winner will represent Nigeria against other JA Africa member-nation companies for the title of JA Africa Company of the Year in Zimbabwe this December.   At NCOY, JA student companies present the results of their enterprise bef...

Over the last decade, several African countries has gained the world’s attention as emerging innovation hubs. We have seen technologies like M-Pesa, Mellowcabs electric minicabs and Saavyloo pedal-operated waterless toilets, created by STEM entrepreneurs to address some of the real challenges faced on the continent. To maintain this trend, there is a need, across the continent, for greater emphasis on hands-on STEM education that bridges the gap between theory, entrepreneurship and STEM innovation. Additionally, given the realities of global warming, natural resource depletion, energy crises, and environmental degradation, it is critical that STEM solutions to development challenges are sustainable. Company Program 2015 Lagos: The Winners

JAN Company of the Year competition takes place annually and is open to public and private secondary schools. Company Program teaches students in SS1 & 2 how to set up and run a start-up company ad it truly puts the three (3) pillars of Junior Achievement (workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy) into action Programs- . The activities includes selling shares, conducting elections for key officers who will handle the affairs of the company ranging from marketing, production, HR, Finances and the positions of CEO & CFO. Upon liquidation of the start-up, proceeds from sales of products or rendering services are channeled towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and dividends for shareholders.
