LEAD Camp : Leadership, Empowerment Achievement & Development Camp for Girls

(JAN), in partnership with Union Bank are teaming up to empower the lives of
fifty (50) girls from various regions of Nigeria for the sixth (6) installment
of LEAD Camp taking place July 17th -23rd in
Lagos. The mission of LEAD Camp is to nurture young girls to become
high-achieving women leaders while addressing Social Development Goal
(SDG) 5: Gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. In order to
achieve this mission, the participants are taken through series of activities,
which include leadership workshops administered by HOD Consulting, a global
leadership development company serving fortune 500 companies globally.
To be eligible
beneficiaries must have previously participated in JAN’s flagship Company
Program; recommended by the teachers and volunteers who run the program and
maintained a leadership role in the Company. JAN Company Program provides
training in the different facets of setting up and running a business. Skills
developed include market research, writing a business plan, creating an annual
report, raising capital, managing all aspects of running the business while
keeping adequate financial records, liquidating the company and returning
profits to shareholders as dividends, and perform an act of community service.
As indicated in the name, LEAD Camp will consist of activities in leadership,
empowerment, achievement and development. These activities will be supported by
leading women from the private and public sectors in Nigeria serving as mentors.
Summary of activities:
Leadership – HOD Consulting, a leadership development and executive
coaching firm based in New York, will deliver leadership workshops including
Strategic Thinking and Visionary Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Habits of
Highly Effective Leaders, Communicating with Confidence, Goal Setting, Time
& Energy Management and Executive Presence.
Empowerment – Leading women from various sectors, industries and non-profit
initiatives (including government) will be invited to share their unique
stories in order to empower the girls to dream big and pursue whatever they are
passionate about to fulfill their full potential.
Achievement – Mentors from the media including will help teams of girls
craft messages on the Nigerian girl-child for presentation on their various
platforms.
Development – Finally, self-development sessions will include career
planning, financial literacy and topics on staying healthy including nutrition,
exercise, sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDs, which will be delivered by
health professionals and a Board member from the Dangote Foundation.
