MASTERCARD AND JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT NIGERIA PARTNER TO GIVE NIGERIAN YOUTHS ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING

For the second year in a row, MasterCard is supporting Junior Achievement Nigeria (JA Nigeria) to reach more girls with entrepreneurship and financial literacy training to build the business skills of the girls through the Girls Enterprise Program (GEP). The goal of the program is to provide young girls with additional educational opportunities to learn about business, economics and free enterprise.
The GEP is an adapted Company Program of JA Nigeria for young girls between the ages of 14 and 18 from disadvantage backgrounds in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja. The program will run for a period of 12 months during which entrepreneurship skills, work readiness, financial literacy and life skills will be administered. The grant from MasterCard will enable JA Nigeria to enhance her traditional entrepreneurship training with business mentoring that will help the participants to establish viable startup companies within a year of completing the program.

During the course of the implementation of the GEP, JA Nigeria will conduct entrepreneurial training, organize internship experience and Microfinance access, develop business plan and form alumni network for the beneficiaries.

For over a decade, MasterCard has partnered with Junior Achievement to provide financial empowerment education to young people across the world. MasterCard's partnership with Junior Achievement began with the Junior Achievement—Young Enterprise program which stresses entrepreneurial thinking among youth as well as featuring entrepreneurial opportunities for them.
