Dignity does not consist in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them.”
Aristotle

Dignity is a term used to signify that a person has an innate right to be valued and receive ethical treatment. Dignity expresses your happiness and your strength. With a lack of dignity, a person would be weak and would not be able to stand up for himself, and therefore give up or give in to anything and anyone.

Dignity is a quality that each person is capable of having thus the mission of Global Dignity day is to implement the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life. This day is a global demonstration of the inspirational and inclusive power of dignity. We all have the ability to increase the dignity of others and thus we increase our own dignity. The more dignity we have, the brighter our world will be.

The global dignity day is an invention of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway Professor Pekka Himanen of Finland and founder of Operation HOPE, John Hope Bryant from the United States. They realized that Dignity is the very foundation of our humanity. Dignity is universal and Dignity is also the source of human rights. Global Dignity was created in 2006 and since then they have worked with many Young Global Leaders and other partners in over 40 countries

Global Dignity Day 2012 recorded about 350,000 young participants across 50 countries with a goal to instill and inspire a new, more positive, inclusive and interconnected value proposition in students for their lives as they grow into adulthood. JA Nigeria contributed to this numbers by bringing together about 20,000 students in various schools across Nigeria (Lagos Abuja, and Port-Harcourt) to celebrate this day.

The need to celebrate this day in Nigeria is to make young people aware that in the midst of the different cultures, languages, religions and socio-economic classes in this Nation, there is still a need for unity and this is celebrated by treating every person with dignity. This year, together with The Hayford Alile Foundation, the goal is to reach 50,000 students across Nigeria.

The event would run for two weeks starting from October 1st to October 16th with a grand event to end it all on October 16th, 2013.

The Sixth Annual Global Dignity Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th, 2013, and will be celebrated in over 50 countries around the world. Get ready for Global Dignity Day 2013!
