#NCOY2016 – THE GAME CHANGER IS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH!! On Thursday 6 th October, 2016, five JA Student Companies representing each region across the country assembled in Lagos “the center for excellence” to compete for the title of the 2016 Junior Achievement National Company of the Year Award. Representing the South East region was Golden Sceptre Company of Graceland College, Enugu. The North Central, duely represented by the The Explorers Company of Government Secondary School, Tundun Wada, Jos and New Era Company of Asokoro Community Staff School, Abuja. The Explorers Company won the award for Best CSR Project and 4 th Place Winner while the New Era Company came 3 rd Place Winner. LEAD Camp media mentor and Ebonylife TV producer Mrs. Priscilla Nzimiro, showed her mentees the ropes of the entertainment business during their field trip to the EbonyLife TV production studio where they had a full tour of the grounds by presenter Fortune Imerhion who was so patient in showing us around. The girls got the chance to see what life behind the camera is really like, the work entailed in producing a show and the energy required to make it in the industry. The girls weren't quite as ready as we had hoped for their cameo in regards to the manner they approached their research, but Priscilla came up with a new strategy and created new lines for the girls to read and worked with them on their diction to make sure they delivered their best performance and this is the essence of mentorship after all. JAN RECEIVES CITI’S $150,000 GRANT TO EMPOWER YOUTH IN THE NORTH-EAST Junior Achievement Nigeria has received a grant of $150,000 from Citi Foundation to empower 250 youth aged 18 to 35. The grant will be used for the implementation of Junior Achievement’s Immersion Training Strategy: Targeting Young Marginalized Entrepreneurs (JA ITS TYME) program for a period of 2 years. At the end, the top fifty will be given funds to support their businesses, including an opportunity to be apprentice of successful business leaders for a set period of time.
