Global Community Day #CitiVolunteers #Project350

For over a decade Citi has partnered with Junior Achievement Worldwide in empowering thousands of beneficiaries globally. However this event was a little different as JAN came on board to support Citi’s Global CSR initiative, Global Community Day on June 11 th , 2016 with Citi employees, partners, and friends. Citi in partnership with The Lagos State Government and IHS joined forces on  Project 350, a private-sector driven initiative to build libraries and ICT centres in secondary schools across Lagos State, and the creation of an online library which will serve as an Education Portal and a repository of knowledge. Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, Special Adviser in Education for Lagos State was there to shed some more light on this groundbreaking initiative.  Citi adopted Government College, Waziri Ibrahim, Victoria Island Library under a five year partnership and renovated the school’s library with internet enabled computers, furniture and books. 2015 JA Africa Company of the Year Competition

Junior Achievement Nigeria outshines 16 Member Nations in Student Company of the Year Competition (#COY2015). A host of national champions representing sixteen (16) JA Africa member nations participated in the Junior Achievement African Regional Company of the Year Competition (#COY2015) held in Libreville, Gabon December 2 nd – 5 th 2015. The 2014 JA West African teams were rescheduled to compete in 2015 as a result of the 2014 Ebola outbreak. JA Nigeria was honourably represented by The Dynamites; Government Girls Secondary School, Abaji, Abuja. The team of four included Miss. Idoko Mercy, Miss. Ogbobi, Miss. Monalisa, Miss. Ichado Faith and Miss. Gambo Mariam. The Dynamites emerged the winner of the 2014 JA Africa Company of the Year Award. In addition they also won the 2014 FedEx& Citi Client Satisfaction Award.   Junior Achievement Company Program impacts more than 380,000 young people a year globally. The program teaches senior secondary level students how to start and run their own business; develop a product/service, and market it with the support of a volunteer trained by JAN. Volunteers are crucial to the success of this program as they serve as business advisors to students. The 2015 Edition of Company Program was sponsored by The Abraaj Group and Citi Foundation. Students are selected to form a company, chose a business name and elect a board to oversee the company for the program duration. The offices include: The Chairman of the Board (President//CEO), Director of Production, Marketing, Finance and Human resources. They create a company; raise capital by sales of shares; decide on what to produce; the market to sell their products; pay dividends to investors and use about 10 percent (10%) of their profit for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity of their choice. ...
