Junior Achievement Nigeria - Run-A-Thon 2013

Program Background

Preamble

Run-A-Thon is an annual fundraising event that will be held on October 19, 2013. The purpose of this event is to help fulfill Junior Achievement's mission to empower young people to own their economic success. Students of Junior Achievement, Board members, teachers, volunteers and the general public are invited to be involved with the fundraising activity and the event day which will include a fun run and soccer tournament. This year promises to be a successful event with your help.

The Fund Raising Activity

Private sector organizations, Schools, Individuals, other partners and the general public join Junior Achievement in raising funds to reach more children, especially the underserved. Junior Achievement will provide these individual(s)/corporate organizations pledge fund envelopes which they will use to raise funds. They often work in teams with a target amount which should be met within the assigned period. The funds raised are given to Junior Achievement on or before the event day.

Event Day: The Fun Run and Soccer

After the fund raising activity, Junior Achievement invites all stakeholders who participated in the first phase of the fund raising to a fun filled event at a location identified by Junior Achievement. Individuals who did not participate in the fund raising activity are also encouraged to participate in this fun filled event with a minimal fee, which will serve as their contribution towards the fund raising activity.

The event comprises of a 5 - 7km race around the radius of the venue of the event as well as soccer game for soccer loving fans.

The highlight of the day would be when awards and gifts are given out to winners of the 5- 7km race in various categories and the soccer competition. There will also be lots of food and drinks at the venue with music and entertainment. The spirit of the program is participation but not necessarily to win prizes.
